I came into this show blind ,, no reviews or background info , to avoid spoilers ..

I heard it was like Mr. and Mrs. Smith: the anime ...

but instead , it feels like Hogwarts: the anime

----
I mean its cute .. I dig the comedy appeal .. great animation and characters ..

But I was kinda expecting episodic missions .. Loid getting new tasks and tackling them every couple of episodes ....

I wasn't expecting this "infiltrate the school" arc to last so long ...

(POSSIBLE SPOILERS) ::: Can anyone tell me how long this arc is suppose to last? Is this what to expect for the rest of the show? Anya earning stars to get close to the evil boss who's son attends school?

It's more of a premise than simply an arc, it's like asking how long "finding one piece" arc is suppose to last?
Well only the author know about it.

Infiltrate the school is the whole story up until now.

With some side-arcs in between.

People hype it so much. It is solid tho imo, somewhere around 7 or 8/10. It's definitely not perfect. There are way better shows this season imo. For example, I enjoyed Summer time Render, Kongming and Tomodachi Game more than SxF

this arc is pretty much the entire anime, i don't know about the manga but assuming people's reactions we might get a new arc there.

I think it's evident enough the whole show's gonna be that? It isn't a single arc,it's the base of the show...which will be divided in separate arcs. Idk how ppl can misunderstand this simple thing.

tbh I am also disappointed reading the synopsis I thought it would be a serious anime with all three of them trying to hide their identity and Anya being an esper not a telepath

I would have to agree with the original poster, yes the show is good in itself and entertaining enough that I'm gonna finish it, but it definitely was hyped up differently.
Maybe it is just based on the content I consume, which of course makes this super subjective, I know. The hype I experienced made it seem as if the spy and assassin aspect were gonna be the main aspect of the show, paired with the family fluff. However, for a show that still relies heavily on the narrative of Loid being a spy with a secret mission and Yor a badass assassin (I mean it is referenced in the OP and mentionned a lot), it certainly does not show much of it. I am too a bit disappointed by that, I get that the family bonding is the main theme, but right now I don't see anything conflicting this. They live together, play pretend family and actually realize that they grow yo like each other's company. That's it. Which is fine, but means that the thrill of them all being secretive is long gone and flies completely under the radar.
As for why people are confused on how long this school infiltration arc is gonna last (missing that it is the entire show), for me too this was a surprise. Isn't there a whole ass mission attached to this? For world peace? I honestly forgot what role Damian's dad plays in all of this and why it is so important for Anya to befriend him. If the entire plot is just this, I seriously doubt the next seasons will be as popular as this one and viewers will drop like flies, sorry.
Overall the show isn't bad, but could showcase more of the spy/assassin stuff as it was advertised/hyped up as one of the appeals and why it is a fun new show. Honestly if I want a good show that centers around family bonding and childcare, I'll watch Usagi Drop instead.

If you made to here, thanks for your time reader and sorry about the essay.

Roughly 26-29 chapters to go (idk how it'll work out with the anime yet) because afterwards will be an arc centering around Yor but I assure it's going back to Anya's arc later on

perfectly said honestly, i like the show and i thought the beginning was amazing but ever since anya got into the school it’s been a step down in quality. there’s no spy and assassin aspect at all, just family and school which is fine but it’s missing a big aspect of what the show was both marketed and established to be in the beginning.

They’ll be side missions. Just not this season. I understand if u haven’t read the manga yet but there’ll be more action. they’re kinda just setting up the plot and characters. And this “infiltrating school arc” is the whole point of the show lmaoo that’s supposed to be his main accomplishment. Think of it like Naruto wanting to become Hokage but he has to make friends and go through missions to get there, it’s sorta like that.

The point this person is trying to make is that it shouldn’t really be seen as a slice of life. You have a whole family of assassins and mind readers with hardly any action in the first season which isn’t what many were expecting. But next season I hope is longer cause there should be a lot of action.

It is pretty normal to have expectations while getting into a show, but not the kind you had. If you have general expectations around the quality of the show or good humour, that's pretty fair.
But if you make up the scenarios in your head before going in, and end up getting disappointed, that's pretty much on you.

It’s definitely overhyped for sure, and almost all the jokes aren’t funny, but it’s not a bad show overall, sure the plot isn’t that interesting, but it is fun to see Anya and the Spy dude try their hardest and fail because Anya’s so bad at everything she does

I see you have mis understood the premise of the show. Cause the infiltrate the school arc…. Is the whole show. With how that we wouldn’t have the family all together cause the only reason they are together is for this mission and when this mission is over, so is the family. They have side missions through out the show but the infiltrate the school one is the main one that will end when the show ends.

I get it if people dont feel the humor and the way the show is going. the show is pretty slow imo (i read the manga) but the story is getting better as it goes on.

and I dont think you can compare shows like tomodachi game and summertime render with spy x family since they are completely different from each other

Season 2 has more of thing you looking for actually it focused more of the "secrets" stuff especially Yor's career just hope that they will adapt it. Season 1 on the other is just a setup for the main plot. The nearest spy thing you will ever get is the aquarium chapter which gonna be on upcoming episode 12 but I don't think it's the thing you looking for.

There will be episodic missions for both Yor and Loid in part 2.

As for the school-mission taking so long, that is pretty much what the show is about, and it makes perfect sense.
Loid made the fake family because of this mission. If it ends quickly, the family will disband and Yor/Anya will be discarded.
The show will likely take a sweet time developing relationships in the family. Just as the title of the story implies, the family is important. Loid will need a lot of time (and Yor too) to realize just how valuable their fake family is for them.

You're very impatient, there will be a lot of those things you mentioned in the future, especially Yor's murderous side.

if you're so impatient why don't you read the manga? get what you want faster. Part 2 have more action.the beginning is to establish the characters, is it so hard to understand?

bcs those animes (except for kongming) are more of a action as main genre themed shows while sf focuses more on sol, comedy. so i wouldn't be comparing it to those animes. Personally I'd actually rate kongming higher than sf as well.

The best way to think of it is like a sitcom. The school section of the series is more like Anya's role in the series. Each character has a mission, so to speak. Loid's is to work on Operation Strix, Anya's is to help Loid (without him knowing she knows it's actually a secret mission) and Yor balancing being a good mother with being an assassin. After a while, once we've settled in more, there will be more episodes that have some goofy or action focused subplots, but what we've seen so far is essentially the main plot.

For all those people complaining that there's not enough action or spy stuff, all I can tell you is to wait for the upcoming arc, and the dog you saw at the end of the last episode has a lot to do with it. I swear it will be worth the wait, and I have no doubt that WIT will deliver.

i'm not impatient and i made it clear that i still like the show. all i'm saying is the person who made the forum has a point. the show has felt less fun since anya has entered the school and that doesn't mean it's been bad, it's still really good, just not as good as it was in the first half imo. is spy x family a good show? yes. did i say it wasn't? no. am i allowed to make minor criticisms towards a show even if i like it? absolutely. are you very defensive over this show for some reason and care too much about other people's opinions? yep. you've made multiple forums about this topic on top of replying to a bunch of people saying they must be impatient or don't understand the show if they said even the slightest bit of criticism towards the show. why don't you just enjoy the show and stop caring so much about what other people think because it really shouldn't matter. not to mention, nobody is even hating on the show. everyone in this forum i've seen has the show rated a 7 or above if they've already rated it, so everybody still likes it, people are just voicing their minor criticisms and that's perfectly fine and you shouldn't really care.

also, i have the manga in my ptr so i will be reading it eventually, i just don't have the time right now to do so.

thx for the responses

my apologies for not getting the premise , like I said I came in blind ..

He's a spy for the West , looking to prevent a war .. I guess I was expecting more villains , more arcs , him climbing up the ladder of the "East" as he poses as a family man when he's actually an undercover spy

I mean , like I said I enjoy the show .. but as others commented , I was expecting a little more action , especially as far as Loid's spy missions or Yor's assassin missions

Ima stick it out ... and thx for the other recommendations (Kongming, Usagi Drop, Tomodachi Game, etc)
